Mathias couldn't help crack a small laugh. "I had a hard time rememberin' things fer a while after that!" he chuckled out with a grin. "I'm jus' glad I didn't hafta go to the hospital," he continued. "Haha, I dunno'. I guess ya' could say me and Ber had got a painful partnership." The woodcutter laughed again and shook his head. "I'm startin' to think no one'll ever get along like Ber and Timo." he said grinning. Sometimes he wondered whether or not they knew what was going on between them. I mean, everyone else knew. Maybe they just needed a little push.
It just occurred to Mathias that he should wait and let Berwald apologize first. That way, he'll take the brunt of Timo's scolding and he won't even be as hard, because well, it's Berwald. With any luck, the big lug would already be at Emil's tent taking most of the heat for him! The woodcutter nodded wholeheartedly at Berwald's mother. "Wouldn't dream of it." he agreed. He'd had enough drama for a whole years worth.
The blond scoffed at the thought. "A real man eats everything whole!" he made up quickly. Truthfully, he was a nervous eater and if the situation was especially stressful, like say a family member was dying, he'd binge eat without even chewing. The silence dragged on as they walked and Mathias sighed inwardly. He sort of expected the answer and he was glad Emil wasn't in pain, but still, he had no idea what he was going to do or say once they had got there.
"...Let's go in, I guess." the woodcutter said straight faced. Mathias opened the flap of the tent and went inside. Sure enough , everyone was inside. "Uh, hey guys," he said awkwardly. He quickly threw up a peace sign to Berwald to signal his non-violent intent. His eyes then drifted to Emil who, true to everyone's words, looked like crap. "Hey, Pop. You ain't lookin' so hot, huh?" he joked with a soft expression.
