Ludwig smiled at the oven that held the cake he placed in it earlier. He was glad the teacher didn’t mind him using the University’s kitchen to make a cake for his family. He could bake the cake at home, but then it wouldn’t be much of a surprise for them getting better. It was something his grandmother used to do whenever any of the family members were sick.
“It’s a sweet treat that someone who is ill can look forward to when they have gotten better. A reason to get well faster.” The words his grandmother said echoed in his thoughts as he picked up the dirty mixing bowl and utensils and placed them in the sink. He washed his hands and dried them off with the towel next to the sink.
He looked over at the window as he thought, “Hm.... getting too warm in here.”
Ludwig walked over to the other side of the classroom and opened up the large, elongated windows typical to the University. “It’s a good view from the kitchen,” he thought as he looked out to the grounds of the campus.
It was a simple lay out, a path that curved to each building for students and staff to reach their destination. Not all students were going to another class or event as some were studying under the young trees that spread out from the area or hanging with their friends. Even the art students were making use of the beautiful day.
Ludwig moved his gaze over the different scenes until he forced himself back to the task at hand. He needed to finish up cleaning. He was working on putting some of the ingredients away when the buzzer went off. He went to the drawers and pulled out a couple of oven gloves. Donning them, he opened the oven and got hit with the smell of cinnamon, nutmeg and brown sugar.
“It turned out great.” He smiled at the cake as he pulled it out and placed it on the cooling rack that was sitting on the counter. He grabbed a fork and pushed it into the cake a bit. It was clean as he took it out.
“Great! Now for the final touches,” he thought as he turned around and turned off the oven. He walked over to the stove that held the pot of simmering apple-flavored glaze. He turned the stove off and set the pot aside to cool a bit. He then turned to work on finishing up the last of his cleaning ignoring the large open window behind him.
