Stepping off the train, Arthur looked around distastefully at the crowd around him. He had hoped that there would be less people around if he came in the middle of the day, but it still seemed to be full of people, chattering to themselves as they looked around all of the stalls. He actually considered turning around and going home, but decided that now that he was here, he might as well buy his lantern and get it over and done with. Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. He could be a little picky when it came to them, and with good reason, as he was looking for one to remember his mother by. As he didn’t have a shine for her at home, he preferred to use the parade as a time to remember her, and a nicely decorated lantern was the Solus equivalent of a bunch of flowers left at a grave.
First of all, he took some time to work out where everything was. It was difficult. Everything seemed to have sprung up without any planning at all. Food stalls were next to toy stalls, lantern stalls were next to clothing stalls. In the end, Arthur just gave in. At least he managed to find the stall that he’d brought his lantern from last year, but found that this year they had a disappointing range. They didn’t even have the same one he’d brought the year before, not that he’d buy the same one again.
Huffing irritably, he gave up for now. Buying himself some chocolate dipped strawberries from one of the stalls, he headed over to the wall of the garden and sat on it, people watching with a scowl on his face as he nibbled on his sweet treat. Honestly, this whole thing was a mess. If he was in charge he’d at least make sure there was a decent organisation to the place, and maybe a couple of maps wouldn’t go amiss either!
