The splash of the running faucet stopped as a young black haired man sighed. He wiped the pot he just finished washing dry and shuffled the heavy steel back into its rightful place in the cabinet. Kiku took another sleepy gaze at his home's kitchen. His and his mom's lunch was prepared. The pots and pans he used were clean. The table was clean. He smiled, ever so softly, appreciating an evening well spent in the kitchen. He took light steps up the stairs, so as to not disturb anyone, and retreated inside his room.
Kiku thought to himself, checking his internal To-Do List. 'Prepare our afternoon meals. Check. Study for the exam tomorrow. Check. Feed Tama. Check. Update online blog. Not check.' Kiku took a wistful look at his computer. It was late, he was rather sleepy. It had been a while since he had posted anything. Then again, what difference would it make if he would put it off until school ended tomorrow? Also, it wasn't like anyone regularly checked his blog anyway.
Content with the excuse, Kiku slipped off his sandals and tucked himself into bed. Seeing his cat sleeping peacefully sleeping on its own little bed on the floor, Kiku drifted slowly into sleep. The young man started dreaming.
The dream put the small man in a strange town. It was unfamiliar to him yet it felt like he was here before. As if it was a part of his memory that had been whited out. Eastern castles, raised on high stone, adorned with similar grey tiles usually more than two stories high. Around these castles, a network of roads lined with houses with the same feel. All of it should be as foreign as could be from someone on the island but Kiku strangely felt he had seen this all too many times. As if his life was lived here. He felt nostalgic.
It was beautiful. The buildings, the trees all seemed like they belonged to a lost part of his memory. And while it was frustrating he could not remember, he felt happy. He felt this was a time of order, that a chaos had subsided just recently and this time of peace and order was safely protected. Protected by those who carried swords. Samurai. The word appeared in Kiku's mind. A warrior that wielded a blade, his history was a great one. A Samurai is a model. Someone who people should look up to. The people seemed content.
It was a time of stability.
Suddenly, a pair of black eyes opened. Kiku looked outside. Soft sunlight was radiating through his curtains. Kiku got up with ease, a strange sense of happiness manifested itself in the form of a smile on Kiku's face. He felt like it was going to be a wonderful day.
(( The Edo Period. After a long time of fighting and chaos, the Tokugawa family ruled over a time that unified Japan and gave a sense of stability. The order and laws were protected by the Samurai. They were meant to be a model, what someone should be believing in. The social class rule was implemented during this time and helped keep the order during the time. Economy was good, too, so I think most of the people were content. ))
