Arthur snorted. "I don't smoke." That, at least, was true. He'd had a cigarette here and there where he'd been offered them, and plenty of passive smoke, even though smoking was technically illegal inside public spaces, but he didn't buy cigarettes, or smoke them out of social situations. Drinking was his stress relief.
Chewing on his lip as Alfred read the story, Arthur did at least enjoy the little smile that Alfred gave. He waved his hand at the compliment. "I'm better at landscapes." He explained. "But since it's a children's story I thought I could get away with being more simplistic."
Sitting down beside Alfred, he watched him read the story, pulling his blanket off the sofa and snuggling into it again. "I suppose I did." Arthur said, sighing, as he watched Alfred flick back. "I was thinking I should try and publish them under a pseudonym." Taking the papers back, he put them carefully on the coffee table, not having the energy to get up again now. "I don't know what my agent will say though." Leaning his head back against the sofa, he let out a tired sigh.

"Mm? It smells a little like cigarettes, sorry." He stretched his legs out a bit, nodding in agreement. He thought children would still like them though, they were rather cute pictures. Humming softly, Alfred nodded and smiled at him. "If you did that it wouldn't hurt anyone, I think...And if your agent doesnt like it, maybe try publishing it with a different company. Childrens books are pretty hot this year."
Especially with all the bad morals that kids got nowadays from various influences. He could easily see the tiredness though, and he hummed out lightly. "You look like you're about to pass out, dude." He was gonna get him to bed if it killed him--and no, he refused to take the others bed.

"Maybe I will." Arthur said, thoughtfully. Though, of course, it was one thing to say something drunk, and another to actually do it in the morning. Still, he eyed the papers, and thought about it. "I don't know what name I'd use, though. I've never been fantastic at coming up with them."
Closing his eyes, he opened one when Alfred called him out on it, and pouted at him a little. "Thank you." He said, sarcastically. "Nice to know I'm still looking good." Turning away, he hid a yawn, badly. "I'm all right, though." Leaning over a little, Arthur looked back at Alfred. "Besides, it'd be rude to sleep while you're here."

Humming out, Alfred tugged the book back over then closed an eye. " As long as it doesnt sound pedoey." he chuckled, finally just tugging the glasses off and setting them on the table, rubbing his eyes. He needed a break from them. The pout was cute though, so he just smiled at him brightly.
"You're welcome~" Still, he gave him an unbelieving look, then sighed. "Really, you look like you need to sleep...If it doesnt bug you, I'll stay here and read the book or something... If you trust having some homeless dude in your place, that is." He commented, flushing lightly, but it was obvious he was in fact worried about the others health, especially when Arthur looked like he could fall asleep on his feet.

Arthur chuckled at that, and nodded. "True, but that doesn't make it easier to think of something." He'd have to go on a baby name site in the morning. That's what he usually did when he was stuck for something. Not that it usually helped too much, but... He'd find something.
Sighing out at that, Arthur ran his fingers though his hair. "I don't mind you being here. If I had a problem with you, I wouldn't have invited you in. You saved me. I trust you." It was more complicated than that, but Arthur did trust Alfred. The boy had had plenty of opportunities to take advantage of him before now, and he hadn't, so he didn't see any reason why he would now. "But it'd be rude of me to take the bed and leave you alone." He smiled a little embarrassedly, then, cheeks flushing a bit. Perhaps he should change the sheets before he let Alfred sleep in them, though. Being a bachelor, Arthur didn't change them quite as often as he should do.

"Hmn? Nah I couldnt sleep anyway. Just go ahead and sleep, if I get tired I can sleep on the couch right?" He asked, smiling. "I would feel really bad for taking your bed anyway. " That at least was true. The last time this situation arose, he had felt so bad that he flat out ran out around 4 am.
"Besides, I'll be able to finish this book and probably get halfway through the next one this way. I can take a break for one night from heroing." Smiling, he gently nudged the other towards where he assumed the bedroom was. He was already planning something for Arthur though, a nice surprise for when he woke up.

Arthur let out a little noise at the nudging. "Mm... You shouldn't stay up all night reading though. You should get some sleep too." At least he was accepting that Alfred could sleep on the couch now. Standing up a little unsteadily, he took the papers for his new books off the coffee table and put them away, before disappearing into the bedroom. A few minutes later, he returned with his arms full of bedding, which he dumped unceremoniously on the sofa.
"Here. Make yourself comfortable, all right? And help yourself to anything in the cupboards." He offered, hiding another yawn behind his hand. "You're welcome to take a shower if you want too, there's soap and what have you in there."

Glad at least he convinced him, Alfred nodded a bit before he smiled, watching him go. Chuckling at the other doing that though, he lightly pulled one of the blankets over to lean on it more comfortably before he looked up. His eyes definitely brightened up at the thought of taking a proper shower though. "It won't wake you up?"
Alfred didn't want to wake the other if he was a light sleeper. Still, he would investigate the kitchen just to see what was there, to make sure what stuff the other had and didnt have. After a moment though, he pushed off the floor and then sat on the couch, the pillow and blankets kind of poofing up around him and making him look a bit smaller. "Thank you, Arthur..." Was said softly, a shy smile on his face.

Shaking his head, Arthur swallowed another yawn. "I should be fine." He'd probably sleep like a rock until his stomach woke him up in the morning, forcing him to go and be violently sick. Hopefully Alfred wouldn't be showering then. But he'd seen the light in his eyes at the offer, so he wouldn't take it back even if he hadn't been drunk and thought he might have woken up.
The boy did look adorable, cuddled up like that, though, and Arthur smiled at him a little fondly. "Not at all, Alfred. Just make yourself comfortable, all right? You're welcome here." He smiled. "And not just because you save me." He admitted, a light blush on his cheeks.
"Sleep well. Make sure you do sleep a bit." He said, quickly. "The light switch is by the door, if you want to turn them out." Smiling once more, he quickly disappeared, reappearing briefly in his pyjamas to go to the bathroom, but then disappearing into his room and curling up tight into the blankets, falling asleep almost immediately.

Nodding then, Alfred smiled and settled down a bit in the comfortable couch. Hecouldnt remember the last time he'd slept on such a comfortable thing...Still, it was nice for Arthur to say that and he nodded, giving him another bright smile. "You sleep well too, Arthur. Goodnight." He glanced to the switch near the wall, locating it, and then around twenty minutes after Arthur went to bed, he found some more comfortable clothing in his bag then disappeared into the bathroom.
After a quick shower, he returned, dressed in loose clothing and wandered around the living room quietly before he went to the kitchen, just looking to see what he had. It was a few minutes later that he decided he would need to go to the store, but he could wake up really early and do that in the morning...Hopefully. In any case, he returned to the couch after a few minutes, settling down, and read for another few hours before finally he turned off the lights and went and curled up in the blankets.
It'd been so long since he could remember sleeping soundly like this, and even if he did have some nightmares, he felt safe when he woke up a few times before dozing off again, faintly enjoying the quickly becoming familiar scent of Arthur.
